Proofsheet to Headshot
This page was originally a contest, but I decided to keep it up so new actors could see a little of the process of choosing a headshot. These are the proofsheets from my last headshot shoot. I took them to my agent and manager, and they chose three out of all of these. See if you can guess for yourself which ones they chose. Then scroll down, or click here to see all three photos chosen by my representation.

HEADSHOTS!!! Probably the most difficult and important and possibly the most costly thing that an actor needs. Unfortunately, there is no right or wrong to headshots...okay, well, there are some wrongs, but the rights are...well...difficult to pin down. So, let's start with the...DON'T... wear too patterned clothing, too revealing clothing, or too heavy clothing (it makes you look heavier than you are).get your make-up done to the point where no one knows it's you! Headshots are not glamour shots.wear your hair in a way that you will never be able to duplicate.shoot in front of backgrounds that are too busy...the focus should be on YOU not the background.pose to the point where you look uncomfortable.work with a photographer that makes you feel uncomfortable.pay over $ 500 for headshots...and even that is a little pricey.try too hard to be what you think 'they're looking for.'DO... wear something simple, comfortable, and flatteringget your make-up done if you can't do it yourself...but it should be natural looking, it should still look like you everyday (or at least what you look like at an audition)!groom your hair in a way that you can duplicate and is suitable to you and your personality.shoot in front of a simple or blurry background.allow the best of you to shine through your body language, smile, and EYES...you've heard it, and it's true...the eyes are the window to the soul. Let them see you.BE YOU.The thing that is unique about you...is you. Headshots should share this you with anyone who sees it. It should communicate something about you, at the same time catching their attention. Also, be sure that your pictures look like you...there's nothing worse than walking into a room and having the casting director say..."This doesn't look like you." (Trust me...I know!)
